About me, Jo Steel
Jo Steel
Trauma-Informed Integrative Humanistic Counsellor in Madrid
I’m Jo Steel, a trauma-informed integrative humanistic counsellor in Madrid, offering therapy in both English and Spanish.
I support people who are going through difficult life situations, including trauma, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions, providing a safe and supportive space where they can explore their experiences at their own pace.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent over 20 years working in education and 5 years in publishing. This background gave me a deep understanding of people, communication, and the challenges we can face in both personal and professional environments.
In 2021–2022, I completed a Master’s in Integrative Humanistic Counselling at the Galene Institute in Madrid, where I trained to support clients through a humanistic, relational, and trauma-informed approach to therapy.
Originally from the UK and now a Spanish citizen, I work with an international community, offering therapy outdoors in Madrid and online counselling worldwide.

My Approach
Integrating therapy, nature, and nervous system support

My work is grounded in integrative humanistic counselling, which means I adapt each session to your needs, while maintaining a strong focus on trauma awareness and emotional safety.
I have a particular interest in how trauma and the nervous system affect our wellbeing, and how creating the right conditions can support healing.
Alongside online sessions, I also offer:
- Walk & Talk therapy in Madrid, using nature to support emotional regulation and connection
- Outdoor therapy sessions in green spaces, helping you feel more grounded and at ease
For many people, especially those working through trauma, being outdoors can make it easier to open up, regulate emotions, and feel more connected to themselves.
A Little More About Me
Nature is an important part of both my personal life and my therapeutic work.
In my free time, I enjoy walking and cycling, and I value the sense of calm, perspective, and connection that being outdoors can bring.
This naturally flows into how I work as a therapist — creating spaces, both indoors and outdoors, where you can feel safe enough to slow down, reflect, and begin to heal.
